For optimal results for applying protectant, clean your pool cover in the early morning, before it has been exposed to direct sunlight and becomes very warm or hot.
Determine the most effective method for cleaning your pool cover based on its surroundings. The presence of fences, walls, awnings, or other structures may limit your ability to maneuver around the pool and use a pole with a PoCo Mop in a back-and-forth motion. a. If the pool is fully accessible: Keep the cover closed and begin cleaning by lightly spraying water over the surface, adding more water as needed. b. If access is limited: Open the pool cover, then close it partially to expose a 6–8 ft section. Lightly spray the exposed area with water if needed. Stand at the lid end and clean one section at a time.
Remove loose debris—such as leaves, twigs, or excess sand—using a leaf blower or shop vacuum before starting the cleaning process.
Attach the mop pad to the large mop. (Refer to “Tips for Mop Pad Installation” below.)
Secure the mop to your pool pole.
Attach a spray nozzle to your garden hose and position it for both spraying the pool cover and rinsing dirty mop pads.
Lightly spray your entire pool cover or a 6–8 ft section at a time as described above.
Mop your pool cover using a back-and-forth motion to loosen dirt and grime.
If the mop begins leaving dirt or residue, clean the mop pad.
Hold the mop vertically and spray the pad from top to bottom using a garden hose nozzle. Once clean, use the PoCo Scraper to remove excess water. Repeat as needed. Please note that it is normal for the Velcro material wrapped around the large mop to loosen and/or develop bubbles when wet. It will tighten after drying.
Use the small mop to clean corners, edges, and uneven areas of the pool cover. Clean and rinse pad as needed.
For stubborn dirt or stains on areas like the bar, corners, or track edges, use the PoCo Handheld Scrubber with a round pad: spray cleaner onto the stain, scrub in a circular motion, let sit for up to 15 seconds, then rinse and/or wipe clean. Repeat if necessary for stubborn stains.
Wipe away excess cleaner with towels or a clean mop pad. Rinse the areas cleaned with PoCo Pool Cover Cleaner if necessary, the cleaner must be fully removed before applying protectant.
Allow the cover to dry completely. If needed, use a clean, dry pad to remove any remaining water spots before applying PoCo Pool Cover Protectant.
